Hi, friends! I'm Beck.
I am a writer, leader, and social entrepreneur who believes in businesses that put people and planet in tandem with profit—or what I like to call prosperity.
My motto, graciously adapted from John Elkington's Triple Bottom Line, is:
What have I done?
People: Originally from Boston, I have traveled to 17 countries and lived in three: Bulgaria, Taiwan, and Nicaragua. After studying journalism in undergrad, I taught English in Taiwan at an after-school tutoring company called Hess International Educational Group. Living and working abroad has enriched my life, fostering a deep sense of global citizenship by challenging me to adapt, embrace diversity, and contribute meaningfully to our interconnected world.
People + Planet: I joined the US Peace Corps as an environmental educator and community developer in Nicaragua. For two years, I volunteered to live in a small, rural community teaching science (¡en español cómo no!), planting community gardens, and working with Nicaraguan advocates to improve local water sources.
People + Planet = Prosperity: I earned two graduate degrees from Brandeis University: an MBA in Social Impact and a Master's in Sustainable International Development. I learned about the incredible potential of seaweed as a nature-based solution to mitigate climate change. This led to a management consultancy with The Nature Conservancy where our team led capacity-building workshops and advised on the governance of the Belize Women's Seaweed Farmers Association.
